Past and Present
The Limes is one of the oldest houses on the Green being built as a Kent Hall House in medieval times……even before Henry VIII was crowned king in 1509. There are many similar listed houses around the Green making it one of the most famous and picturesque village greens in Kent. It is written there was a skirmish on the Green between opposing forces of the Roundheads and Cavaliers in the English Civil War of the mid 1600s. Recently an elderly resident told me (when he was a young boy) he had seen a Doodlebug (Hitler's self-propelled bombs) fly directly over "The Limes" on it's way to the target of London.
The Green remains the heart of the local community and is well used. Footy matches on Saturday and Sunday mornings, a Farmers Market every four weeks, Cricket every weekend in the summer months. Our Village Fête, Music Festival are annual events and are always packed with visitors and locals.
Four Restaurants make Bearsted Green heaven for "foodies". Due to demand reservations are a must at the weekend.
